It’s a great way to give yourself some pointers for further research or to start the process of getting yourself on the road to freelancing, or if your already on the road, making it organised and getting some tips. Considering a career working in film and TV? Our networking event focuses on film and TV careers introducing those new to the industry to experienced professionals who can offer advice and guidance. You will gain an understanding of the industry, the type of roles available and the skills required to work in film and TV. Hearing how others entered and progressed in the industry, the highs, lows, and potential pitfalls will give you confidence to decide which avenue is for you. Access to those currently working in the industry will advise you and help you work out your next steps.

The event will begin with a panel session discussing routes and roles in the industry and then offer the opportunity to network with experienced crew, as well as potential employers.

Networking and being able to discuss different sectors of the industry was amazing. I was put out of my comfort zone and was able to speak to like minded-people, especially from the North East about their experiences and sometimes struggles and how I can relate to that. In addition, NFM motivated me with their success stories from people leading workshops to really immerse myself in the industry and inspire change.’

I attended the first NFM Trainee Bootcamp straight out of university. I had learned the skills that I needed to work in costume during my time at university but I still didn’t know anything about working in the TV and film industry as a crew member. The boot camp taught me chain of command on a TV/film set, how to act, who to approach, how to read a call sheet etc and this information has come in useful.’

‘I learned about the Crew on a TV or Film set and what each person’s job is. I also learnt about working your way up in that type of industry and what would happen on a normal day of filming.’
