Managing Director of Northern Film + Media since June 2012, John was previously Finance Director, appointed soon after the company’s formation in 2003. John leads the NFM team and has been instrumental in developing a first class finance structure and driving innovative public-private partnerships. An Associate member of CIMA of 25 years, John has worked in senior roles in a number of private, public and third sector companies in the North East.

Alison Gwynn

Alison heads up the outward-facing arm of NFM, responsible for fundraising and identifying new sources of revenue and developing the organisation’s programming activity. She works to expand the organisation’s commercial operations and broaden its relationship with potential stakeholders, from local councils and regional businesses, to arts and other media organisations as well as shaping NFM’s strategic development.

Gayle Woodruffe

Gayle is responsible for promoting the region to film and TV production companies encouraging them to film in the North East. Gayle maintains a comprehensive database of information on crew, facilities and locations, providing excellent local contacts and knowledge for anyone planning to shoot in the region. Gayle also manages the NFM Academy.

Katie Strachan

Katie co-ordinates the activities of NFM Academy, facilitating events, advising on CV’s, working with productions to organise placements and is first point of contact for trainees and productions.  Katie is currently on maternity leave.

Emma Lawson

Executive Producer – The North East Comedy Hot House

NFM has created a unique partnership with scripted comedy executive and North East native, Emma Lawson to launch The North East Comedy Hot House; a first-of-its kind comedy co-op cultivating regional talent, both on and off screen.

Emma hails from County Durham, and began her career in Newcastle in 1998 at L!ve TV. She has since banked over 20 years of extensive experience in both physical production and editorial development on award-winning television shows. She has a vast network of high-end on and off screen talent and has worked with some of the biggest names in comedy. She has spent the last eight years working as an executive at Ash Atalla’s production company Roughcut TV overseeing their scripted output, including producing five series of the bafta nominated BBC sitcom CUCKOO.  Emma is a passionate regional advocate, working regularly on regional inclusion and mentoring programmes, as well as engineering production back to the North where possible.

Emmy award-winning executive producer, writer and consultant, currently working with Battlebots Inc on their primetime entertainment series, now in its second series on ABC.
