Managing Director of Northern Film + Media since June 2012, John was previously Finance Director, appointed soon after the company’s formation in 2003. John leads the NFM team and has been instrumental in developing a first class finance structure and driving innovative public-private partnerships. An Associate member of CIMA of 25 years, John has worked in senior roles in a number of private, public and third sector companies in the North East.

Alison Gwynn

Alison heads up NFM’s strategic development and the outward-facing arm of NFM.  She is responsible for fundraising and identifying new sources of revenue and developing the organisation’s programming activity. She works to expand the organisation’s commercial operations and broaden its relationship with potential stakeholders, from local councils and regional businesses, to arts and other media organisations.

Gayle Woodruffe

Gayle is responsible for promoting the region to film and TV production companies encouraging them to film in the North East. Gayle maintains a comprehensive database of information on crew, facilities and locations, providing excellent local contacts and knowledge for anyone planning to shoot in the region. Gayle also manages the NFM Academy.

Charlotte Nixon

Charlotte supports Northern Film + Media and Tees Valley Screen’s management teams to deliver talent and business development events programmes for emerging and established film and television professionals across the region.  Charlotte also looks after our digital marketing, communications, and social media activities, and is the first point of contact for media enquiries.


Jen Corcoran

Jen manages Tees Valley Screen, an exciting new Tees Valley-wide development programme supporting people and companies across film, television, artist moving image and broader screen industries. The programme provides artists residencies, workshops, socials and opportunities to break into and develop careers within the screen industries.

Nina White

Nina will be supporting Jen in the delivery of the project and brings experience in supporting SMEs and freelancers in the Creative Digital and IT sectors as part of the Creative Fuse North East project at Newcastle University. Nina also works as Events Coordinator for Stockton-based arts organisation The Auxiliary and Middlesbrough Art Weekender.

Teresa Saint

Teresa manages the monitoring and evaluation requirements of Northern Film + Media ERDF Tees Valley Screen Development project.

Katie Strachan

Katie co-ordinates the activities of NFM Academy, facilitating events, advising on CV’s, working with productions to organise placements and is first point of contact for trainees and productions.

David Cawston

David is responsible for Northern Film + Media accounts, purchase invoices and bank payments.

Emma Lawson

Executive Producer – The North East Comedy Hot House 

NFM has created a unique partnership with scripted comedy executive Emma Lawson to launch The North East Comedy Hot House; a first-of-its kind comedy co-op cultivating regional talent, both on and off screen.  Emma hails from County Durham, and began her career in Newcastle in 1998 at L!ve TV. She has since banked over 20 years of extensive experience in both physical production and editorial development on award-winning television shows.  Emma is a passionate regional advocate working regularly on regional inclusion and mentoring programmes.

Lisa Laws
