Shorted was Northern Film & Media’s short film scheme, aimed at film makers (both experienced and newcomers) with a great short film idea.
Entry to the scheme and the fund was made via the Shorted Pitch Challenge. The winners of the Shorted Pitch Challenge each received up to £10,000 to professionally produce their short film. The winner/s also benefited from high level script development and producer mentorship, guidance from international distributors Soda Pictures, and the opportunity to work with Failbetter Games to create an online element to their story.
Northern Film and Media collaborated with Magic If on The Shorted Pitch Challenge which gave filmmakers one day to shoot and edit a compelling pitch for their feature film idea. An industry panel then selected the best ideas to be awarded up to a maximum of 10k each to develop their feature project to a short film stage. The chosen filmmakers also benefited from the industry expertise of international distributors Soda Pictures as well as script development and producer mentors. The selected filmmakers were also be given the opportunity work with an experienced national digital agency to develop an online element to their story.
The pitch day was about risk-taking and spontaneity; experimentation and invention; finding those elusive creative solutions when it all goes horribly wrong – not perfection.
Each team was given a professional actor and 6 hrs to shoot and edit their feature pitch before presenting it to the panel.
Shorted was a Northern Film & Media initiative funded by European Regional Development Fund, One North East , UK Film Council and Solutions for Business. The Shorted Pitch Challenge Event is designed and delivered by Magic If (creators of the 4 Hour Film Challenge)
