Celebrated film lecturer, casting director and writer Wendall Thomas will bring her 25 years of Los Angeles-based industry experience to a day-long masterclass at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on 10 December.
‘Bridesmaids: Anatomy of a Hit’ will examine the 2011 summer phenomenon scene-by-scene, looking closely the special alchemy of plot dynamics, characterisations, scene structure, dialogue, tone, pacing and marketing which have made this a genuine 300 million dollar hit.
Roxy Bramley, Creative Industry Manager at Northern Film & Media, said: “Wendall has consistently been one of one our most popular speakers and we are delighted to welcome her back to the UK after a break of two years. She brings a combination of first-hand experience of Hollywood and a writer’s sensitivity to the analysis of filmic texts, making every class she teaches a not-to-be missed event. It’s great to have an opportunity to connect the great writing talent of the North East with such an exciting and genuinely expert teacher.”
Wendall Thomas has worked in Los Angeles as a casting director, director’s assistant, script reader, story editor, development executive, entertainment reporter, script consultant and screenwriter, writing and developing projects for companies including Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Universal, Showtime, PBS, RKO, A&E, NBC, and Scottish Screen. She is also Adjunct Professor of Screenwriting in the Graduate Film School at UCLA.
