Screenplay Festival Award for North East Writers

Posted: 6th May 2014

Two North East screenwriters, David Bonner and Jim Duncanson, have won The Grand Prize, Drama, at the Screenplay Festival in Los Angeles. The award is for their script for The Tailors of Danzig, set in Poland during WWII. David and Jim are also the writers of Cold, Cold Heart, a big budget thriller set in Newcastle, currently in development in partnership between Parkland Pictures and Bonner and Duncanson’s Algorithm Group Entertainment.

David has moved into feature writing after a successful career in creating and producing animation projects for television. His latest creation, Toby’s Travelling Circus is currently being broadcast on Channel 5’s Milkshake. David and Jim have two other screenplays in development. The Test, to be shot in England and India, is a rom-com with cricket as the backdrop. Hotwax and Mustangs is a comedy/drama ensemble piece revolving around six female friends and colleagues. Another of their scripts, The Undoing – a horror movie to be filmed in Los Angeles – is at present in pre-production with James D.R. Hickox slated to direct.
