NFM backed Inspector George Gently draws 6m viewers

The hit Northern Film & Media backed TV drama Inspector George Gently attracted more than 6 million viewers for the second week running  on BBC1 last night.

Gently With Class saw Inspector George Gently (Martin Shaw) and John Bacchus (Lee Ingleby) tackle a murder mystery wrapped in issues of class and family expectations in County Durham. The straight-talking detective duo were once again charged with investigating a murder in which a dramatic  twist turned  the case on its head.

The first two episodes of the latest series of the detective drama have now attracted more than 12 million viewers combined.

Company Pictures’ Inspector George Gently was brought back to Durham – the location of the original screenplay by Jarrow-born screenwriter Peter Flannery – after a £150k investment from Northern Film & Media. The current series is the third to be made in the North East and the drama continues to receive support from Northern Film & Media’s Production Service.
