NE DOCS: Developing new documentary talent from the North East
It could be an amazing person, a top secret institution, a deeply obscure organization; a private club, a closed shop…; you and you alone hold the key to letting the cameras in to tell the untold story for the first time … it’s all about access….
Northern Film & Media is offering funding and development opportunities for filmmakers with a passion for documentary. We are inviting three filmmakers to pitch their exceptional ideas to Channel 4’s First Cut documentary commissioner, detailing how their personal unique access will rivet viewers and attract new audiences.
We will work with the best ideas to develop them into treatments for a full length First Cut style doc, through mentoring with industry experts. The filmmakers will also receive £1k each to realize a two minute sizzle reel which they will then pitch along with their developed treatment to the Channel 4 commissioner tasked with filling the First Cut slot. The taster tapes will be a max of two minutes in duration, shot over 3 days, will have no more than 3 contributors and will be centred around a specific place.
