* DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SUNDAY, MIDNIGHT *
Connect/Exchange is a national exchange initiative for six artists with a moving image, digital or screen-based practice. It is based on the premise that extraordinary, exciting and boundary-pushing artistic work needs time and space to develop and evolve; it doesn't appear in a vacuum, it comes from dialogue, collaboration and experimentation.
Connect/Exchange will provide six artists with three weeks’ time and space to undertake initial research and development for a new work or project, connect and exchange ideas with artists and curators in other regions, expand professional networks and present practice to the public via an artist's talk or screening.
Exchanges will take place between Newcastle and the North East, Liverpool and the North West, and Birmingham and the West Midlands, whilst a further exchange between Newcastle and Edinburgh will be announced at the end of November, subject to funding.
We are looking for artists who have ambitious new or early stage projects and who would benefit from the specific skills, knowledge and networks host organisations can provide to test out ideas and undertake research for the project’s development. Artists could be emerging / early career, or be looking to explore a new angle / approach to their practice.
Artists need to be open about sharing early-stage ideas, thoughts and processes publicly via live events and online, be willing to embed themselves into the artistic communities of the city and organisation where they are hosted, and see how this opportunity can have a long-term career impact.
As well as benefiting personally from the connections made during the project, artists will be expected to share knowledge about the arts scene in their home location with contacts in their host city and vice versa, with the intention that a wider number of artists can benefit.
