UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) are bringing special guests from international conferences SXSW (USA) and Midem (France) to Newcastle to discuss opportunities for exporting for creative industries and artists wishing to showcase and do business abroad.
Film, multiplatform and digital/tech companies are invited to discuss plans one-to-one with SXSW and Midem representatives from 5-6pm, with talks and Q&As for music businesses and artists taking place from 6pm onwards (this section is music-focused, but relevant to all creative industries). The event will be followed by networking drinks, sponsored by the Association of Independent Music, in the downstairs bar at the Theatre until 9pm.
To help UK companies who are considering attending or applying for artists to perform at either of these events, or other international showcase opportunities, UKTI are working with partners around the UK to deliver a series of briefing events to tell you all about the opportunities that these important events can offer. The session will cover the major aspects of both events including SXSW Interactive, the application process, selection, planning and preparation, budgeting, the visa process, when to attend, advice on getting the most out of these events and selecting the best time to apply.
Guest speakers include Una Johnston (SXSW), Javier Lopez (MIDEM) and Phil Patterson (UKTI Music Industry Specialist). Representatives from industry trade organisations include James Gorely and Russell Thompson (PPL) and James Farrelly (AIM).
The event will include short presentations from representatives of each event before the session breaks out into smaller Q&A groups to give artists and businesses a chance to discuss attendance in depth with the experts.
