Run by BECTU in association with Northern Film & Media, this modularised survey of the Production Management landscape is designed to allow participants to select the elements you need to learn, and build each block accordingly.
Production Managing is challenging, exciting and a critical role for any production. Making the step up to PM can be daunting for any PC as you hone your already excellent organisational and logistical skills further and develop your managerial and leadership abilities.
Whatever genre you work in, this modular course will furnish you with a thorough knowledge base of the critical skills necessary to become an excellent and effective PM.
Using interactive seminars, practical exercises, workshops and industry examples, you will come away a strong foundation with which to build your career further and excel as a PM. After our pilot of this course in Manchester earlier this year, we are now pleased to roll it out across the country, where it will take place in London, Salford and Gateshead.
The course is broken down into five modules to be run across five Saturdays. The modules are designed to stand alone or fit together as a series, so course participants are free to pick and choose exactly which modules to attend.
Module 1: Introduction (Sat 15 Oct)
Suitable for those who are unsure if this is the move for them, or new entrants who may think this is where they would like to work towards. This module covers every aspect of the role and what it means, what to expect and how to work with it. Read more and book your place here.
Module 2: Budgeting and Contracting (Sat 19 Nov)
Suitable for those who are currently working as 1st AD, Production Coordinators or other roles, who want the experience of full production budgeting across multi formats, from soaps to series and single dramas. This module will look at managing diverse productions across all aspects and over a range of scenarios, from single drama to soaps. Topics addressed will include negotiating, managing expenditure and working through the kind of issues important in maintaining production flow and getting finished on time and in budget. Module 3: Health and Safety, Risk Assessment and Stunts (Sat 26 Nov)
This module will be vital for understanding production safety and the responsibilities of those managing teams of crew and talent. It will look at thinking on your feet, managing risk and how to handle stunts – an increasingly important aspect of production. Using live and work based scenarios you will work through aspects and legal issues to increase your knowledge and understanding. Read more and book your place here.
Module 4: Post Production, Completion and Silvermouse (Sat 03 Dec)

All examples used during the day will be based on scenarios from production. Read more and book your place here.
Module 5 – Scheduling with Movie Magic (Sat 10 Dec)
