Production Management Modules from BECTU and NFM - Discounted Places Available

Run by BECTU in association with Northern Film & Media, this modularised survey of the Production Management landscape is designed to allow participants to select the elements you need to learn, and build each block accordingly.

Production Managing is a challenging and exciting role, and critical on any production. The step up to PM can be daunting, however. This course has been designed to help you make the leap, by giving you a thorough knowledge base of the critical skills necessary to take your career to the next level and excel as a PM, whichever genre you work in.

Using interactive seminars, practical exercises, workshops and industry examples, the course is broken down into four modules to be run across four Saturdays. The modules are designed to stand alone or fit together as a series, so you are free to pick and choose exactly which ones to attend.

Thanks to the support of NFM’s funders, we are able to offer North East creative industry professionals a two-for-one deal on places! This offer is limited to one free module per person and cannot be transferred – see below for further details.

The Modules:

Budgeting and Contracting (Sat 19 Nov)

Suitable for those who are currently working as 1st AD, Production Coordinators or other roles, who want the experience of full production budgeting across multi formats, from soaps to series and single dramas. This module will look at managing diverse productions across all aspects and over a range of scenarios, from single drama to soaps. Topics addressed will include negotiating, managing expenditure and working through the kind of issues important in maintaining production flow and getting finished on time and in budget. Health and Safety, Risk Assessment and Stunts (Sat 26 Nov)

This module will be vital for understanding production safety and the responsibilities of those managing teams of crew and talent. It will look at thinking on your feet, managing risk and how to handle stunts – an increasingly important aspect of production. Using live and work based scenarios you will work through aspects and legal issues to increase your knowledge and understanding. Read more and book your place here.

Post Production, Completion and Silvermouse (Sat 03 Dec)

As you will know, the job of PM is not over after the shoot. This is sometimes just when it begins. This module looks at managing post production, what you need to complete projects, and takes a look at Silvermouse software for completion papers – a must for those sending to broadcast. All examples used during the day will be based on scenarios from production. Read more and book your place here.

Scheduling with Movie Magic (Sat 10 Dec)

Movie Magic is a dynamic piece of software used extensively in broadcast and independent production. This module takes you round the software, its use and management, and tools to make scheduling of even the most complex multi-shoot series or soap and easier ask. The class will include live scenarios to ensure you are working on current issues. Read more and book your place here.
