‘Writing, Pitching & Winning Commissions’ will be packed with essential tools, secrets and top tips, from writing targeted and effective proposals to exploring the commissioning landscape and encouraging programme ideas that are both effective and market ready.

With an emphasis on Entertainment, Factual Entertainment, Factual and Drama, this dynamic day will consist of a morning dealing with the Art of Development and an afternoon focusing on a practical brainstorm session to come up with a format to meet a Broadcaster’s brief. Get ready to get creative!

Who's
it for?

 

Ideal for TV and digital media content development staff, producers, directors, writers and freelancers. This workshop will benefit anyone keen to increase the effectiveness of their development output. It encourages lateral thinking while offering insight into the current needs of the main channels.

 

 

 

Pre-
requisite

 

Participants will receive in advance current pitch briefs for three different channels and be asked to bring ideas for development.

 

 

 

Your tutors

 

Graham K Smith and Mark Robson run Grand Scheme Media, a creative development consultancy service for TV and Online content creators. With a broad range of clients that include individual creatives, independent production companies and broadcasters, they have had success helping get ideas from page to screen. Graham has been a commissioner at Channel 4 and Five, an executive producer in the BBC Comedy department and has run his own production company. Mark has created programmes for a range of broadcasters including ITV, the BBC and Channel 4. He was an Executive Producer and Commissioning Editor for ITV.

When: Friday 21 March, 10.30am – 5.30pm. (Registration will be from 10.15am for a prompt start at 10.30am. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse entry to those who arrive late.)

Tickets are priced as follows:

  • £50 (reimbursable) – North East of England creative industry SME (click here to check eligibility). Thanks to the support of NFM’s funders this fee will be reimbursed to eligible delegates on completion of the course.*
  • £75 – ITF company members or freelancers based outside the North East of England; North East delegates who do not meet eligibility criteria
  • £200 – non-ITF members based outside the North East of England.

Payments are processed via PayPal and may be made either with a PayPal account or with credit/debit card. We regret that we are unable to invoice or take payment by cheque. Please note that cancellation refunds cannot be made within a week of the events (i.e. after 10am on Fri 14 March).

The ticket price covers the cost of classes, any printed handouts and teas/coffees during breaks but please note that lunch is not included.

On registering you will be sent a Pre-Course Questionnaire to establish your interests, professional experience, and what you hope to get out of the course.

* Thanks to the support of the European Regional Development Fund, delegates working professionally as freelancers or employees/owners of smaller companies in the creative industries in the North East of England will have this fee treated as a deposit to be refunded after the event. To check your eligibility please click here. This deposit will be refunded the day following the event to eligible delegates who have attended the whole of the class (or classes) and should clear back into delegates' bank accounts within four working days at most.
