In his first major speech since taking up his post as MD of ITV Studios UK, Julian Bellamy will deliver this year’s Royal Television Society North East and the Border Centre Keynote lecture, held in association with the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.
Many of ITV's biggest programmes are synonymous with the North, including Coronation Street and Emmerdale, and with approximately two thirds of ITV Studios' drama slate now filming in the North, the region is increasingly vital to ITV Studios' continued growth and global success. In the lecture, entitled "All Points North", Bellamy will examine ITV Studios' productions beyond London, with a particular focus on the North and North East – where filming is currently underway on ITV Studios' big budget drama, Beowulf.
Bellamy’s post as MD of ITV Studios UK sees him leading the country’s largest commercial production company, where revenues have increased by 12% in the last year. He was previously the Creative Director of Discovery Networks International, running production and development in 200 countries. From 2005 he was the Head of E4, where his decision that the channel should broadcast 24 hours a day increased their core audience by 30%. His success in drawing in audiences continued as BBC3’s Channel Controller from 2006, where his decisions improved the channel’s 16-24 year old target audience share by 40%.
