Get the insights that all emerging filmmakers need to drive their careers on to the next level at a panel discussion event with executive producer Philip Trethowan (Head, Touchpaper Wales), Surian Fletcher-Jones (Head of Development, Drama, Channel4) and director Tom Marshall. This event will showcase the acclaimed Channel 4 talent strand, Coming Up, run with production company Touchpaper Television.
Recently restructured to result in a feature length drama, Coming Up offers one of the few opportunities for new writers and directors to make an original film with a guaranteed network broadcast. This event will illuminate both the opportunity to apply to the scheme and also tease out the lessons it offers to emerging filmmakers.
Primarily intended for directors, but also open to writers and producers, Next Steps for Filmmakers is aimed at those who have already made some short films and want to move on, especially into broadcast television drama.
Ahead of the upcoming directors' deadline for the next iteration of Coming Up (09 Oct) - and comfortably in advance of a call for writers next Spring - attendees will get first-hand insights from producer and broadcaster into their priorities, processes and the selection criteria they use. Director Tom Marshall will also share the experience of how he made the leap from successful shorts to his breakthrough Coming Up film Postcode Lottery (2012), leading to further broadcast work on Switch and London Irish. Postcode Lottery will be screened as part of the event.
The event will be chaired by Northern Film & Media's new creative industries manager, Andy Jones. There will also be an opportunity to raise your own questions with the panel, both during the event and over coffee afterwards.
