Meet the Filmmaker - A 'Random Acts' Presentation with Maxy Bianco

Northern Film & Media, Channel 4 and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art recently commissioned ten artists and filmmakers to make short films for Channel 4’s Random Acts strand. To celebrate their completion and in the lead up to broadcast the ten films are in exhibition at BALTIC from 28 October – 17 November 2013. To illuminate and complement the exhibition, the artists and filmmakers will be talking about their Random Acts projects.

Maxy Neil Bianco, 'Pig the Dog'

Maxy Bianco is a filmmaker whose work explores the strange lives of marginalised characters who haunt the raggy fringes of the North East of England. Maxy’s Random Acts film, the fictional ‘Pig the Dog’, was created out of this world.

Maxy will be talking about the making of ‘Pig the Dog’ as well as screening and discussing some of his previous short form work. This will include excerpts from ‘Can House’ – Maxy’s first film, which he shot entirely independently – and the more recent ‘Granada’ and ‘Blue Lagoon’ which explore the edgelands of Teesside.

Maxy’s work has been described as “art from somewhere that’s fallen off the edge of the map, from a place as far from the centre of English society and culture as it’s possible to go, economically, socially and spiritually - as close to the edges and ends of England as it gets”.

Join Maxy for this informal talk and screening, in conversation with Roxy Bramley, Creative Industries Manager, Northern Film & Media.

When: Wednesday 13 November. Registration from 3.45pm for a 4.00pm start. Ends 5.30pm.
