A practical guide to writing and developing cross-platform comedy, this two day expert-led intensive course is designed to help you get the most out of your comedy ideas and writing. Open to a maximum of 15 participants, 'Creating Comedy for TV' is presented by Grand Scheme Media in association with Northern Film & Media.
With years of experience in making and commissioning comedy, Graham Smith and Mark Robson of Grand Scheme Media are perfectly placed to help you understand the comedy commissioning system, introduce you to the characters responsible for making hit shows, and help you get your ideas to the right person at the right time.
This two day workshop will enable you to understand the politics of the commissioning process, as well as give you on-the-spot feedback about your ideas and scripts.
It will focus on your writing and help you find a platform for your ideas, whether in traditional situation comedy, comedy drama or formatted comedy entertainment (game shows, spoofs, new revues, etc.)
The course will look at different styles of comedy, analyse what works and why it works, discuss dealing with talent and agents, and train you how best to pitch your ideas.
It will offer practical advice on laying out scripts and script editing, as well as forecasting trends in comedy for the coming years.
You will also have a chance to have your work assessed and contribute to group sessions creating comedy material “on the fly”.
Lunch and teas/coffees will be provided.
