Developed in partnership with Northern Film & Media’s Connect/Exchange initiative this workshop offers you the opportunity to contribute to the longest hand-painted film in Britain. Designed to be an entertaining, informative and inspiring introduction to film making, all are welcome to drop in to Unravel at the NewBridge Project in Newcastle and draw, scratch and manipulate 16mm film in an attempt to turn the viewer into the maker of the work in a literal ‘hands-on’ way. The resulting animations will be shown in a special screening at 5pm.
Visitors will be contributing to Unravel – an epic project that will create a gigantic film made frame-by-frame by a diverse cross section of the people of Britain. Newcastle is its latest stop on a tour of national film venues, art galleries, community spaces and educational institutions across England, Scotland and Wales. The organisers hope to amass nearly 1.5 million 16mm frames – one frame for every metre between John O'Groats and Land's End – producing a finished work which will take a mammoth 16 hours to screen. Click here for more on the project.
This is one of a series of touring workshops which will ultimately amass an epic sixteen hour film created by hand, by a diverse cross-section of the people of Britain. It will be developed in collaboration with an equally wide range of national film venues, art galleries, community spaces and educational institutions across England, Scotland and Wales
When: Saturday 08 February, 1pm – 5.30pm
Where: The NewBridge Project (NB Books), 18 New Bridge Street West, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, NE1 8AW.
The workshop is free of charge and open to all. Please sign up for this event via Facebook; no other registration is necessary. Everyone is welcome – from young children and families to experienced film veterans.
