Katie Ellen, Senior Distribution Manager at the BFI, will present an overview of the current distribution landscape for feature film in the UK, explaining the traditional routes that distributors use to reach an audience, but also looking at successful examples of some alternative release strategies that are increasingly being used in this competitive marketplace.
Ellen will explain the distribution support offered by the BFI and present several case studies of recent awards that have received Distribution Funding, focusing on what filmmakers can learn from recent innovative distribution strategies.

Katie currently works as Senior Distribution Manager in the Film Fund at the BFI where she manages the Distribution Fund and Audience Development lottery activity. Recently supported projects include the innovative multiplatform release strategy behind A Field in England, the event cinema release of Nymphomaniac and the successful UK release of Under the Skin. She is also responsible for Film Export strategy and support, including the Film Export Fund for sales agents, and the recently launched US Distribution pilot scheme.
