The 10th anniversary Berwick Festival & Media Arts Festival takes place from 17 – 21 September 2014, once again transforming the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed into one big screen through film premieres, site-specific installations and live events in locations across Berwick and along the town walls.
Addressing the theme of ‘Border Crossing’, the year’s Festival will take audiences on a journey, setting out to cross and transcend borders in all directions, exploring border identities all over the world. Berwick-upon-Tweed makes an ideal starting point: a border town in a region once known as ‘the debatable lands,’ with an identity neither English nor Scottish, but all of its own.
This 10th anniversary edition of the Festival will bring independent film and artists’ video together to explore boundaries – on the map and in the mind – and the spaces in between.
This year’s Festival also includes two collaborative commissions and premier screenings run in partnership with NFM. Internationally renowned US-based media artist and curator Ben Russell has been commissioned to make ‘The Wild State’ (click here for more info), and leading experimental filmmakers Rammatik’s will create a video for Philip Selway’s forthcoming single ‘It Will End in Tears’ as part of NFM’s Sound + Vision project (click here).
Early Bird Festival Passes are still available, priced £25. These ensure that visitors can experience everything the Festival has to offer.
