10th Anniversary of the China Independent Film Festival - UK Celebration

This four-day event in Newcastle celebrates the 10th anniversary of The China Independent Film Festival (CIFF) – one of the longest-running indie film festivals in China. With its commitment to independent thinking and freedom of expression, the CIFF serves as the most important platform for showcasing Chinese indie films in China.

Featured in the programme are the following:

  • ‘Film Festivals in Focus’ (14 May, 1pm): a workshop featuring the directors of CIFF and Edinburgh International Film Festival, as well as key scholars in the field
  • ‘The Third Eye’: a master-class with leading documentary filmmaker Feng Yan (15 May, 10am)
  • Q&A screenings of Old Dog (12 May, 4pm) and Bing’ Ai (14 May, 4pm), with directors Pema Tseden and Feng Yan
  • Retrospective screenings of CIFF award-winning films
  • Archival exhibition on the history of the CIFF

All the screenings, master-class, exhibition and workshop are open to the public with free admission, but booking is a prerequisite.
